Because of copyright restriction and performance rights, it would not be possible to play DRM music without paying the artist(s) and/or rights owner – which are covered by Spotify/Apple play/Amazon Music/YT and others by per play payments. Keep in mind that performance rights differ from region to region. For further details, look at RIAA (America) PRS (UK) and other regional websites for details. Also keep in mind that anyone acting a D.J., without the appropriate approval from the rights owner, is in violation of DRM regulations, and would be subject to fines.

We held a test event for our spaces on Gather, and background music was one of the most requested features in the feedback we got in our survey. We ended up having a 'DJ' avatar with music playing from a portable speaker sitting on a spotlight tile, but it wasn't always clear depending on what song was playing.
